People using business as a force for good. To many, this is a foreign, bewildering topic. To us, it’s our livelihood and the mission of the nonprofit behind B Corps, B Lab. A recent campaign created by B Lab is called B The Change. And its exactly what it sounds like. It’s a campaign to recruit new B Corps, use B Corps, and talk about B Corps in order to be the change we seek.
As part of the B The Change campaign, B The Change Week for B Lab was a few weeks ago. Here in Philadelphia, we spent the afternoon with the wonderful employees of B Lab and other B Corps at MANNA, the Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance. MANNA is a nonprofit founded in 1990 that brings free meals to people all over Southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey who are battling life-threatening illnesses. We cut potatoes, we sliced pie, we packaged meals, and by the end of the afternoon, collectively, we had:
Assembled 624 Chicken Cacciatore meals,
Packaged 252 cakes,
Diced 150 pounds of potatoes,
Chopped 100 pounds of celery, and
Prepared 525 chicken sandwiches!
We had a blast (despite the hairnets and plastic gloves) and hope to be back at MANNA making some more meals for the community! To learn more about B Lab and our day at MANNA, check out the B Corp Blog Post.
